Mikel Arteta gives crucial Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli Arsenal injury update

Mikel Arteta has offered an update on Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli after the pair were both forced off against Sheffield United on Monday.

The Gunners continued to stroll to a 6-0 win at Bramall Lane despite being without their influential attackers for most of the second half.

Saka was the first to go, exiting the game at half-time having been seen grimacing after a shot. He spoke to the physio as he headed down the tunnel at the break and didn’t emerge to take place on the field for the second 45, being replaced by Fabio Vieira.

“Bukayo was feeling sick and he wasn’t feeling right so we decided to take him off and bring Fabio in,” Arteta explained after the match.”

As for Martinelli, he followed less than 20 minutes later. The Brazilian took a blow to his foot when trying to take a shot from the edge of the box but eventually had to be helped off by two physios.

“We had a little issue with Gabi Martinelli. He had a little cut in his foot. We need to see how it is.”

The 22-year-old scored the third goal of the night, firing in via a deflected shot. Saka had earlier played his part in Arsenal going 2-0 up, watching his low cross being deflected in off Jayden Bogle.

Arteta did get a boost to his squad despite the frustration of picking up these knocks, welcoming back Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus, and Vieira from their own long-term injury problems.
