Sadio Mane opens up on injury concerns ahead of Man Utd clash

Liverpool star Sadio Mane has opened up on his injury concerns ahead of the massive clash against Manchester United.

The Senegalese international has scored nine goals this season – and will be relied on by Jurgen Klopp to provide a winning touch against their rivals at Anfield.

He left fans concerned, though, after going off in the FA Cup win against Aston Villa holding his hip with a worried look.

But Mane has now calmed fears he will miss the massive Premier League clash.

Speaking to the club’s website, the forward said: “Yeah, it was just a knock and when I got it, it took a few minutes to settle down.

“It was like a dead leg, but on my hip – not my back. After the game, I put an ice pack on it and it was fine. I am completely fine and looking forward.”

Liverpool find themselves three points behind United after 17 games, with Leicester sitting between them.

The club’s last Premier League win came in the 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace last month, with two draws and a Southampton loss following.

But Mane explained how the champions are hoping to turn their fortunes round against the Red Devils.

He added: “It was a few difficult weeks for us, which was complicated for everyone in the dressing room.

“But as we’ve always said, it’s part of football – you have to deal with it and try to get back to winning ways, which for us is normal.

“We are fighting every single day at the training ground to be consistent each week on the pitch. Now I think we are looking forward to the game, which’ll be a tough one.

“But we’re looking forward to it and will do everything possible to try to win it.”

United have surged to the top of the table with a run of form that has seen them avoid defeat in 11 consecutive games.

But Mane is not afraid of facing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, saying: “They are doing well and they are a good team – a very good team. It is another test for us to see what we can achieve.

“Like I’ve said in the past years, for sure we want to win the league – and if we want to win the league, we have to beat the best.

“Manchester United are one of them. It’s an exciting game, I think everybody is excited about the game – we are also.

“These kind of games, we are really, really, really looking forward to. I think it’ll be exciting for everyone.”

But Klopp has received a blow as five stars have been ruled out of the United clash with injuries.
